One of the morning processes that I embrace is starting my day journaling. I enjoy Ryder Carroll’s variation known as “Bullet Journaling.” It is customizable, which has kept me focused for over six journals now.
Each morning, as I set up my day with my journal, I read and write down anything I find interesting. One thing I enjoy reading each morning in my rotation is my old journals. As I swim in my old thoughts, I will find quotes from a few years ago that speak to me differently or with even more strength now based on what I have or am presently experiencing. Recently, I rediscovered,
“When You Are Unsure… Clarify The Goal.”
Honestly, this one hits at the perfect time because we just finished completing several long-term goals for our family. Usually, after any hard push towards a goal, we feel like a half-deflated balloon balancing out whether to fold over or float.
While re-reading this quote, I realized that we had not placed our next set of goals into a timely structure. Much like an Instant Pot or Crock-Pot, we should set up our next dish to cook while working on what is directly in front of us.
Reading this sparked a new fire in me and got me thinking of everything I need to do. It reminded me of the 36 or more goals we made for the year that I need to get back to chiseling away at and eventually crushing.
There will always things that are going to get in the way of us achieving our goals. They could happen as life’s pitfalls or even during the celebration of our achievements. Either way, we must clean the lens of our scope and start focusing on the distance. All it takes is for us to remind ourselves of what we want. When we do, we will find the fog dissipating, our visibility improving, and our hunger deepening for our long-term goals again.
