Never Stray From The Path
I recall a camping trip where some friends and I went hiking through a state park. On our journey, we got distracted by some great conversations and ended up off the trail. We proceeded “exploring” until finally, we all admitted that we were lost. Following the basic map; the rangers gave us wasn’t much help; however, the topographic map; worked perfectly. We were able to follow the contours of the hills and work our way back to the creeks and cuts, which eventually put us back on our path. For some individuals, this was stressful, whereas others loved the experience of “bush wackin” and getting off the trail.
Detaching from the line that everyone takes can be exciting. It can boost our energy, focus, and passion. Getting off the path is sometimes what we need to lift the weight off our shoulders, destress, be creative, and even relax for a moment. The duration of time off our path makes a significant difference in our momentum. Scheduling a day where we can eat and drink whatever we want is a necessity to enjoying life. Taking a day off from training and working out gives our body and mind a chance to rest. It also allows us to see results from all our hard work. What hurts us the most is when a single day off the path becomes two, three, or more days. A shift like this stalls our momentum, long-term focus, and results. We can only stray so far and for so long before we become lost, as my friends and I did while strolling through mother nature.
Richard Strozzi Heckler said, “The path of the warrior is lifelong, and mastery is often simply staying on the path.” Essentially, if we battle forward and spend more days consistently walking on the path, we will find ourselves arriving at our desired destination. There is more to life than just making our way through a fog; however, we need balance. Searching for balance between floating and hammering towards our goals is where we can improve our overall happiness. Finding this will help us find a way towards a better, more joyful, and productive lifestyle.
The path in which we walk every day from the moment we wake up; to the moment we lay our heads down on a pillow is our path. It is up to us as to whether it takes us closer or farther from our goals. All we have to do is define where we are going. Then start walking in that direction. As we do, every so often, we can stop and enjoy the view, take a picture, and then; get back on our path.
