MARS Southwest Camp 2023 (REVIEW)
Recently we hosted our sixth annual MARS Southwest Camp in Austin, Texas. Every year this Camp continues to evolve with training from the instructors and support from its participants. This year was the best yet when returning instructors Ron Balicki and Nicolas Saignac were joined by 4th Degree BJJ Black Belt and Knife Throwing Champion Alvis Solis, world-renowned Sifu Cliff Lenderman, and our very own Guro Larry St Clair.
The knowledge shared between the five instructors flowed across the most balanced schedule. The MARS Southwest Camp has consistently offered a marathon of twenty-one hours of training across three days. This year was by far the smoothest offering three one-hour blocks in the morning, followed by a 30-minute break, two one-hour blocks, another 30-minute break, and the final two one-hour blocks. Topics taught ranged from Muay Thai and Shooto Striking, Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu, Jeet Kune Do (JKD) Striking and Trapping, Filipino Martial Arts, Double and Single Stick, Knife, Savate, Silat, Boxing, and Knife THROWING!!!
As always, the instructors brought their knowledge, wisdom, and enthusiasm for everyone to enjoy. Rounding off each day of training was Rank Testing in Jeet Kune Do and Silat from www.MARSonlineTRAINING.com and Savate Glove Testing from www.NicolasSaignacSavate.com.
Afterward, all participants cleaned up and enjoyed evenings listening to live music and dining at local eateries. Closing out the Camp, remaining attendees headed out of the city to enjoy time together; and some of the best bbq in Texas.
All the instructors have agreed to return next year for the seventh year of the MARS Southwest Camp, March 1st-3rd, in Austin, Texas. Early Bird Registration has opened, and there are only 19 spaces left! Register before April 5th to save money and your place at one of the best training events all year.
