Five Pillars of Progress: Elevate Your Life in 2025 and Beyond

With the new year in front of us, it is a time for reflection or a personal inventory of the five key areas in our lives. Within these, we can find both the barriers that have slowed us down and the catapults that have projected us closer to our targeted goals. Upon reflection, take these two questions to generate all your peaks and valleys for the previous year. These will help us find what actions we took to advance our chess pieces across the board toward where we wanted to be.

QUESTION #1: How far have we progressed mentally, physically, spiritually, professionally, and financially across the previous year?

Take each area and consider how far you’ve come in the last 12 months. Have you advanced your physical body beyond where it was at the beginning of last year? What goals in each section did you set out for yourself and if you didn’t achieve them, how far off from the mark were you? The dichotomy is that all of these areas must be analyzed individually as well as looked at as combinations of overlapping dominos to your success. For instance, if our mental pillar is slightly off, unfocused, or low, it may be challenging to be creative in the outlets we want to develop this year. It’s also safe to say, that if we are stressed about our financial well-being, we might have a hard time keeping our spirits up, or if our physical body feels sluggish and unhealthy, it could bring our mental or spiritual side down. 

QUESTION #2: Where would we like to see ourselves in the next 12 months or more? 

This second important question encompasses ideas you’ve thought about over the last year. What input have you read or watched that has inspired you to take on new directions? Do you want to work more remote or hybrid? Do you wish to achieve 10 pounds of muscle, or lose 10 pounds of unwanted weight? Do you want to see your financial portfolio grow so you will have more freedom when you are ready to retire? All of these and more will help fix your sights on new and important goals for your pillars across the next year. 

BE BOLD AND BE STRONG.

One of my mentors used to say, “If you could wave a magical wand, and nothing would interfere with your goal, would you do it?” This question generates a positive, no-lid concept in our thought process. It removes all restrictions and negative thoughts toward our abilities, situations, and previous outcomes, creating freedom in our thought process to choose bolder and stronger goals. The goals we select for ourselves right now don’t just have to stop at the end of the year. They can be steps towards three-year, five-year, and even ten-year plans we have for ourselves. Think big, then break it down into small achievable steps. Each step shouldn’t be completely comfortable either. It should push you a little towards being uncomfortable; which will fuel us with positivity, courage, and experience for larger challenges we might face in the future. 

SURROUND YOURSELF WITH A SUCCESS SYSTEM.

It starts here! The time won’t get any better than right now. Begin today by inventorying your five pillars in life and see what plans you can bring to existence in your world. Once you have these written down, create a plan of action steps with deadlines to help push you to the next level. Then, find a tribe of positive, supporting people you can share your goals with that will lift you with assistance and keep you honest and on course when you need it. 

Physical training goals play such a large role in our development in all areas of the pillars. If we are focused on training, our body obviously benefits, but so do our mind and spirit; which brings us a clearer thought process toward our professional goals. Health goals even assist in bettering our financial goals indirectly because we will make better choices; spending less money on entertainment and eating out.
