THE LAW OF SELF-ESTEEM

Our Kickboxing MMA Program builds on unique, five-week progressions that start with Back to Basics and end with two classes of Graduation. These last two days of training are everyone’s favorite for many reasons.  

Graduation is unlike all the other classes during the five weeks. This fresh format not only changes things up but also allows us to review and reassemble everything we have worked hard to create.  

If you walked in, not knowing what was going on, you might describe our Kickboxing MMA Graduation as organized chaos.  The setting of a Graduation class looks like everyone is bouncing around, while “hooting and hollering” as loud as they can for their classmates.  The organization of this class format comes from the formal lesson plan, as well as the three basic Rules of Graduation.      

Rule #1 - Keep Your Hands Up

It doesn’t get any simpler than this. If you don’t keep your hands up, you cannot block nor strike nearly as quickly or effectively.  

Rule #2 - Keep Rock(er) Shuffling

This footwork drill is one that we use to get warmed up, keep us on our toes, and acclimate our heart rate after a big sprint of action. All of which are important during any altercation or scenario. Besides, footwork wins fights.

Rule #3 - BE LOUD!  (aka cheer for your classmates)

During Graduation, this is the most important rule. Often in a regular class, you may only get to work with a few partners. Here at the end, we want to unite our tribe together and help them push harder through the final rounds of Graduation. We construct this by having the students learn their classmates’ names and cheer for each other.

 The beauty of these three simple rules is how well they work together, but Rule #3 makes a difference. Knowing that everyone is right there with you; will take you to new levels of output that are hard to reach when you are alone.     

In Brian Tracy’s Law of Self-Esteem, he says, 

“Everything you do in life is to either increase or to protect your self-esteem.  You tend to be happiest with someone who makes you feel valuable and important.  

The more things you do to raise the self-esteem of another, the more you like and respect yourself as well.”

This strategy, like your martial arts or any skill set, can carry over into everyday life. Anyone can experience a challenging day. You can combat this by merely embodying Rule #3 and staying loud! Be ready to lend an ear, a high five, or a loud cheer, and help the person to the right or the left of you stay motivated so they may push further today than they did yesterday. Your motivation is their fire, and their fire is your motivation.
